August 2005 – Barnes, London, UK

Barnes is a small village just south west London. It is my favorite place in London in fact! They have some kind of bird center there. As I was visiting it with some friends who came to visit me from France, it was a sunny day full of life (birds that mean). I especially liked that bird with this brigth blue beak!

January 2005, Kew Garden, London, UK

When I took this photo I did not realise there was a small bird of the right… I was trying to take a photo of the big one and play with the depth of field between the flower at the foreground and the back scenary. I actually think it works better with the 2 birds on the photo and I like the way the small one seems to be walking on the water :)

Going down

December 2008, Exeter, UK

Those swans were very funny as almost all of them were fishing upside down. I also thought the water contrasted well with their white feathers.

November 2008, Kerala, India

While on holiday in India I was eating on the top of a clif when I noticed some birds of prey flying around… I took several shot of that one and got a lucky shot… one with a crow flying right in front of me… it looks as if the bird of prey is after that black bird!

Drifting Away

London, UK, June 2008

As I stopped to listen a street performer I had time to look around… and I saw some interesting things. One of which was this weird looking metallic cylinder which seemed to be drifting away with this bird on top of it. As if this was a birds raft :)

USA, San Diego, July 2007

On a sunny evening while finishing work I took my car and drove along the coast randomly. I then saw a sign for something called sunset bay, or something like that. I thought it could be a good place to take photos of… sunset! :)

It was a bit cloudy as you can tell on that photo but I still managed to get some “dramatic” photo of the sea with the sun just piercing through. But as you can tell, this is not about this photo!

While taking those “sunset” photos I saw those big birds coming and going, the were flying very close to the sea (fishing?). What I really wanted to take was for each of those birds to have their wings open in a different way. I have almost managed to shot just that in another photo, but this is the one I prefer.

Barbados, December 2007

Barbados was a gold mine for nice photos! in fact I guess anyone even with a disposable camera can take good pictures there! ;)

This was taken at the Barbados Zoo, for about 1h there was a huge rain storm.. most animals were taking cover… except that one… he looked so unhappy, standing there it brought a smile to my face! There were other birds like this around, but they were all under some kind of shed… that one was not going to leave its rock!

The photo is slightly over exposed because it was the only way I could also capture the rain..

2004, Richmond Park, London. Cycling or walking in Richmond Park is great, for a start the park is beautiful but it is also full of wild life! ducks and swans can be found on each of the lake or pound in that park.

It was a time of the year when lot of ducks were having babies. I had bread and used it to attrack those ducks a bit closer to me. Although I liked the look of all those ducks together I really wanted to only have one of the smallest duck on one shot, away from the group.

So I can tell you it required a lot of “bread throwing” skills to get that small duck to go away from the group and had my chance at getting the shot I wanted.

So although it may not be obvious at first, you can see a lot of tiny pieces of bread in the water. In fact what you are witnessing is how the photo was composed/build! :)
