June 2008 – Bangalore, India
I took this photo on a business trip to Bangalore in India.
This photo, in December 2010, finished in the top 18 place at a photo competition within my company, 900 people did participated, putting forward a few photos each and 1,500 people voted for the top 18 photos.
2 of my photos finished in the top 18 and that one finished between 5 and 18 :), only the top 5 had prices so I don’t know the exact place on the ladder this one finished at.
What is funny is that I had no idea there was a theme, I did not take the time to read the not so small prints! the theme was “Diversity and Integrity”.
So when I was told my photos were selected for the final, where the top people in the company were to vote for the top 5, I was asked to explain why I chose that photo as an example of Diversity and Integrity. I scribbled the following between catching 2 planes and with not much sleep, this is all I could come up with :)
MONKEY INDIA
I chose that photo because of the emotion that can be felt through the gaze and eyes of the monkey.
The sad and almost human expression is balanced by the comical and also human haircut.
No matter how different we all are, we can always share something in common
The other photo that finished 3rd, is the butterfly I took near Oxford in England in 2010 and is called “new life“

In the middle of all this dust and chaos there was this policeman… who was walking slowly and seemed so relax an oblivious of all was happening around him… he seemed… happy :)

If you get a chance to fly a long distance flight, try not to sleep all the way and take a window seat… you may be surprised by what you see :)

On a similar theme as the previous photo, I do like taking photos of people when they look natural… for this photo I was actually in a car and with my camera out of the window, as the car was moving quite fast I was busy adjusting my manual settings so the contrast and speed was correct… and less time thinking of what I was taking. I actually really like this scene… 2 random people brushing their teeth while crossing the street… :)

June 2008 – Bangalore, India.
As I was coming back from Mysore to Bangalore my driver was following a truck for a few minutes. It was a huge truck transporting lot of sands and… and a man on top of all that sand… it was quite windy and I watched this poor old man battling to protect his face with his clothes… it felt as if I was an indian paparazzi!

As I was traveling by car in the middle of Bangalore I noticed the front of that shop. I found it quite interesting, such a contrast with its surrounding!

November 2008 – Bangalore, India.
I was visiting an IT camput while working in India. That campus was huge and had some amazing building. I liked that one… it was a pyramidal shape and surrounded by water. They are usually very funny about taking photos while on those campus… so I had to be quick :)

You can actually see this kind of scene on the roads very often. Those workers go and come back to their work in those trucks and there isn’t much room for everyone… I wonder how this would work in the western world with all those health and safety non sense!! ;)

On my way to Mysore, very early in the morning I came accros a small village and here it was… a goat sitting at the centre of that roundabout! :)
In fact, it was attached to one of the post… nevertheless, it seemed quite happy there!

This photo was taken in a restaurant on my way to mysore… a very interesting and strange day in some ways! I went to a buffet lunch in the middle of India to be greated by an indian dressed as a… cowboy!! in fact, all the waiters were dressed as a cowboy! it was the theme of the restaurant (still serving indian food though!)… very weird! but they had a nice lighted up pathway in the entrance :)

Something I enjoyed doing while in India for 2 weeks for work was my car ride to work… going through the morning market… I like the posture of the woman on that photo, the fact she is covering her mouth to breath and her looking right in the objective. I had very little time to frame that photo and to take it as the car was moving… but if the car would have been still I probably would have taken the same photo!

This photo is for me the symbol of indian road traffic in Bangalore… those “autos” are everywhere and… much fun to be in! ;)
