Synchronised Take Off

February 2012 – UK, London

This little boy was surrounded by pigeons and swans as he had some bread for them. I was actually trying to take a photo of a swan who was walking towards me from a low ground point of view. A moment before I took that shot I noticed a lot of pigeons around that boy, so decided to take a photo of it, in fact the time it took me to change the angle of the camera and the focus/apperture, most of the pigeons had landed, appart from those ones and it worked probably better. It looks as if it was a stop motion photo sequence.

No Dogs Allowed

No Dogs allowed

January 2012 – Mauritius

This is a Serin Du cap, feasting on some dogs food left over. I managed to get very close as this bowl was next to a swimming pool… that shot was taken with my water up my waste, not a bad place to wait 30 minutes in the baking sun… I was getting worried for my camera though… I stayed there waiting for the birds to come for long enough my camera was getting almost too hot to handle…

Happy Boulboul

Happy Boulboul

January 2012 – Mauritius

This is a Boulboul, it seemed very happy on that shot, I liked that old garden chair and I took a few shots of different birds waiting there to eat the rice left over by the dogs. I thought it would be an appropriate shot for Valentine’s Day, so Happy Valentine’s Day to every reader! :)

Make up

January 2012 – Mauritius

The same Cardinal as with the previous shot and taken the same day. It is waiting for the dog to leave so it can eat some rice. I managed to get quite close, so it must have been very hungry! :)

Red Peace

January 2012 – Mauritius

Starting with a few series of bird shots.

A little Cardinal bird. I was surprised it stayed there for some time, gicing me the chance to take quite a few shots. In fact, it knew the dogs were going to be fed and was waiting for his chance to get some rice! I like that shot because of how he seems to aim at the leaf in front of it… I fact, I think it was looking at me approaching!

Serein du Cap

Serein du Cap

January 2012 – Mauritius

Some bread crumbs had just been thrown on the ground next to where I was which attracted a lot of different birds. I rushed back inside to take my camera, when I went back a wild dog was there eating the bread and all the birds had fled. It took little time for them to come back once the dog left. That little bird stayed on top of that barrier for almost a minute, giving me enough time to take a few shots as he was looking at me getting closer! Only one rule of the third was followed, that of the foreground, because of that I still decided to keep the bird in the center of the photo and not crop it so it is also in a “third” part of the photo. I liked the fact you could still see the lock on the left.

The Ugly little Swan

The Ugly little Swan

January 2012 – UK, Esher

I went to visit the Claremont Park near Esher not really knowing what was there, but as I get in the park some people were giving bread to a couple of black swan. I took a few shots of them as they were quite striking out the other white swan around. I chose that moment because of the reflection in the water. It reminded me a child story of the Ugly little Duck, a duck who thinks it is ugly when young because he looks different from the other ducks… but in fact really is a beautiful swan, something he only learns later in life/the story. Somehow that “ugly” reflection reminded me of the story :)

Love Nest

January 2010 – Mauritius

This is a bird nest that felt from a tree, amazing craftsmanship!
On the tree they are upside down, so the bird can get in from the bottom and it apparently helps protect the nest from reptiles walking on the branches. Clever!

Taking off in the snow

Taking off in the snow

May 2011 – France, Chamonix

I was amazed to see that many crow so high up, 3842m high!, they were not really scared of humans as they were after any crumbles we may have. I knew that bird was about to fly, but I almost miss it as it was so cold my hands were freezing!

Bird Take Off

August 2011 – UK, Stone Henge

This was a lucky shot!
I was closing in that crow and as I thought the bird was about to take off I took a few shots but he actually took a few more seconds to fly away… which worked quite well as I have a fairly slow burst on my camera!
