Dangerous Dark water

Dangerous dark water

November 2011 – Mauritius

On that shore there are hundres of oursins, so armed with some boots I carefully walked among those sharp little beasts, the sea was coming back in when I took that shot and the current was very strong, but I wanted to take a photo of that dead coral reef that was standing out from the beach, although non of the shot I took of it in color where interesting, I liked how the oursins peppered the undersea view… I also wanted to give the shot a bit of texture by focusing on its surface ripples…

Golden ray

November 2011 – Mauritius

The sky above the sun wasn’t very interesting that evening, so I instead focused on creating this dark atmosphere by having a fast shutter setting. The idea was to just leave a band of sunset let…

Bright side of the moon

3 Nov 2011

October 2011 – UK, London

I used an old 300mm lens to take that photo. I wanted to keep some subtle reference to the location where this was taken, I therefore waited for the the moon to raise above the tree and kept the shadows of the top of the tree in the picture. I also liked the fact there was a bit of cloud reflection. The trick was to over expose ever so slightly the moon. In fact in the original photo the moon is almost fully white, but I accentued the highlights in iphoto, which reveals more of the moon surface without over exposing its surrounding. Something I will practice more… over exposure of the moon! :)

Tree Light

3 Nov 2011

October 2011 – UK, Studland

This tres had amazing ivy growing all around it. It was difficult to show what I was seeing because of the high contrast between the shade and sun… in the end I decided to over expose the tree, take a black and white photo and play a little with contrast on the computer.

Dark Ages

1 Nov 2011

October 2011 – UK, Studland

This is called Harry Rock near Studland in the South of England. It is a very old coast line where you can walk right to the edge. It was a very nice sunny Saturday afternoon and as I was taking a few color photos I accidently set the shutter at a too high speed. I liked how the water was reflecting and the fact the clouds were more visible… so I switched to black and white as they were no need for color due to the high contrast but also because I echoed the old rocks. I experimented with including or not the sun in the shot and compromised for half of the sun! :)

Black Dragon

Black Dragon

September 2011 – UK, London

This was taken from the top of a London tourist bus tour, Although the photo was originally taken in colour because of the contrast it was almost black and white anyway. I liked how to dragon, which marks the entrance to the London City, had such a sharp contrast with the cloudless sky, which is echoed by the chemineys around it… the plane trail also helps focusing the attention to the dragon, there is another line on the other side heading towards the dragon through the chemineys.

No Dual Crossing

No dual crossing

May 2011 – UK, Dover

This was a very tight corridor which was quite busy, I had to wait 5 minutes to get a clear shot. I was interested in the different patterns in this photo, the straigth lines of the walls and the floor which contrasts with the round line of the ceiling

Old Train Tracks

Older train tracks

May 2011 – UK, Dungeness

Some old train tracks which were coming and leading to nowhere! I prefered this black and whit versino to the colored version as I think it intesify the old aspect of the tracks. I played with the depth of field so although only the front is in focus the back blends in nicely.

This is from inside the Dover Castle but looks as if it could come from a church. I liekd how the lights was pouring in the dark stair case corridor.

Two Square

May 2011 – UK, Dover

As I saw those two masts outside the window I wanted to play with the window and the metalic pattern which was on its glass. Those two shadows are part of the window and echo the outside masts. I kept the two black dots as I think they contribute to the optic illusion (although I cannot really call that). Those dots is someting I will play again one day… trying to create a natural optical illusion… you’ll understand once I have managed to get the shot I want :)

You can find all sort of things on the beach of Dungeness, such as a very old door washed away on the shore. I found the photo to have dull color so I coverted it to black and white and saturated the contrast.

Shadow Chair Lift

Shadow chair lift

May 2011 – France, Chamonix

I tried to create a black and white contrast between the two parts of the photo, roughly divided in diagonal. The trees look like ghost, which is also emphasize by the deserted sky lift station.
