Framed photo

IMG_8080.JPG

October 2007 – Dungeness, UK.

This is the last photo of Dungeness I will be blogin on until I go back there. This for is one of the most absurb photo of this absurd place. What is this frame for?! if you look ahead and around, there are no buildings, no reasons to have a hight limit…

Also, I liked to play with the idea of framing/taking a photo of a frame, because in fact I was about to take a photo of what is inside that “frame” when I realised I would prefer to take a step back and give the full picture… Not sure if I make sense because it is quite late when I am writting all this… but in other words, the way to look at that photo is to focus inside the “frame” and then take a step back :)

An Old Trumpet

Old Trumpet

October 2007 – Dungeness, UK

In Dungeness, there is the house of a famous late cinema director I believe. He still has a house there which is being looked after by some people. It is a very strange house with a very strange garden everyone can visit… well… like almost all the houses there, there isn’t any fences!

But I really liked that old trumpet at the back of the house.

A Colourful Boat

October 2007 – Dungeness, UK

I have taken many photos of that place and blogged about it many times… I ought to go back there for more pictures :)

I felt this boat was especially interesting with its bright colours and covered in rust. Although there was a dull and grey sky that day I think it suits the place and that photo. I was only interested to get the very front of the boat in focus…

Messy but tidy

Messy but Tidy

October 2007, Dungeness, England

This was inside a very old shack which looks abandonned… the back was open and those fish net were just hanging there. Although it appear to be a mess, what I tried to do with this photo is to show chaos and organisation/tidyness… to me the bottom of the photo is messy, just a mesh of nets, and the top shows that in fact it was put like this with some kind of logic… with a small metallic bowl on top. Do I make sense? probably not! but that’s normal! :)

House Painting

October 2007, Dungeness, England

When I saw that old shack it made me think of a painting. I initially wanted to crop the roof completely but decided to keep just enough to let the viewer know straigth away what the photo is of. Now, if you want to know what was inside that shack, come back tomorrow!

Fire Fire Fire!

Fire Fire Fire!

October 2007, Dungeness, England.

That beach really ressembles of a ghost beach… not that I am sure such a thing exists! there were 3 of those things just left there for what looks like a very long time. I just liked the color contrast and more generally, I like take photos of rusty junk I guess! :o)

Focus Focus Focus

Focus Focus Focus

Dungeness, UK, October 2007

Staying with the theme of depth of Field and narrow focus… I took this to the extreme on that photo ;)

The only focused part of that photo is a tiny point on that metallic rod. Although most of the photo is blurry you can still make it is a beach with a boat in the background. I took the shot that way to convey a sense of perspective and somewhat… a sense of movement. I tried to give some fake 3D effect by combining a blurry/sharp contrast on the that rod which goes right to the center of the photo… maybe that’s “my” idea of 3d ;)

Blurred Number

29 Jul 2008

IMG_7907.JPG

Dungeness, UK, October 2007

Still playing with Depth of Field (DoP), I wished I had a better lens for that picture. The idea was for the forefront and the background of the photo to be blurred. While the focus was on the letters/numbers written on the 2 container. I also wanted to aligned those numbers with the numbers written on the boat. So the final shot should have a line of numbers going across the photo with the middle numbers being slightly blurry, except that with the lens I used and the fact the numbers on the boat are very bold/big it does not appear that blurry when you look at the photo in such a small format! :)

Curved Line

Dungeness, UK, October 2007

Walking the coast of Dungeness in the South East of England is a joy to the eyes… a Photographer’s eye maybe! :) There are so much old “junk” which has been left on the shore for years. In this photo I was attracted by the space used by the fish rod in the frame as well as playing with the depth of field. I now need to change my lenses so I get an even better depth of field :)

Beautiful Chaos

Beautiful Chaos

Last photo for now from Dungeness, October 2007 in the UK.

The light on that day was very dark and was giving all this place some kind of “ghost” feeling. When I saw this random patchwork of “things” on the beach I couldn’t resist but to take a photo.

I liked the contrast in those pastel colors. It also captured quite well this sense of sea/fishing activity with having sets of fishnets, ropes and sea weed all meshed up.

I had this photo as my laptop background for quite some time :)

Ghost Boat

Ghost Boat

October 2007, Dungeness in the UK.

Another photo from this weird place in the UK called Dungeness as explained in my last post. This small railway must have been used a long time ago once there was some kind of industrial activity in this part of England. Everything feel random there… for those of you who know me of those of you who start to follow this blog you would have started to notice I like the notion of “randomness” :)

This boat was just left there… abandoned… I took the photo in a way to show a sense of perspective with the railway coming in the foreground and going away. I also tried to have a strong contrast of black and white with the boat. Especially with the bottom of the boat. This photo also shows a glimpse of how desert this place is.
