I like this photo, even if it doesn’t have anything special. First, I think it is framed right, without the need for any cropping. Then the boat follows the rule of the 3rd, and gives a sense of movement to the right. The front man helps drawing the attention to the boat too, symbolising any viewers of that photo. It also shows 2 different way of fishing and level of poverty. Those who fish by boat and those who do so by foot, walking on the dead corals.

After a few cocktails by the beach, I took my last one in the warm water of Mauritius… as I was playing with the empty glass I liked the effects you could see and fetched my camera. This is something I will experiement further, antoher time… I also took a photo with this glass of a small fish, which was in focis right at the bottom of the glass. But I prefer this photo, I need a better model! :)

I am still experimenting with light reflections in the sea… and still taking a risk with my lenses so close to the waves ;). This is a very abstract shot, and I am aware it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. But that I like about that shot is the very few color it has, and the kind of symetry with the light at the bottom and top of the photo. They make me think of butterflies.

As I played with different shots of small waves breaking on shore I tried to capture the light reflection and the sand at the same time. With this photo I tried to show a link between the top and the bottom part of the picture which is made by the middle part in focus. It is where you can see a bit of blue water and some brown sand.

As I was chilling out with friends next to this beach I noticed how pink the sky was and then how white that cloud was… I couldn’t resist but take a photo, this is really teh time when my polorizing lens was really useful! it helped defining the clouds and emphazing the different colours. The funny thing though, is that this picture is very close to reality! without the polorizing lens the colors were still there but blend… with that filter it actually helped recreating what I saw that day.

I probably waited about 30 minutes before, Jean Paul, the fisherman decided to throw his net. I believe this technique is called “epervier”. It is net with weigths all around it, the fisherman has to find the fish, walk slowly towards it and then throw the net above them. I almost missed that shot! (I think I say that a lot recently! ;) because as I waited for so long I was taking photos of the corals on the beach.

I took dozens of photos of that reflection, but this shot completely off centered is my favorite… I was in the water up my thighs and lowered the camera almost to the point of touching the water but it was worth the risk! Appart from the fact I like the light effect and the velvet black of the water, I especially like the fact that the blackness of the majority of the photo actually works… it is black and empty, but that’s how it should be! :)

Although dark, I feel as if this photo tell a story… the bottom of the photo could look like a night sky full of stars and the dark blue cloud be the earth atmosphere… Funny enough, I can see that better with that photo like this that if I actually turn the photo 180 degrees!

I’d like to say those colors were there in real life… but I don’t remember! I know I liked the light reflection, but I believe this was thanks to my polorizing filter I had on my lense that you can see those colors…

On that shore there are hundres of oursins, so armed with some boots I carefully walked among those sharp little beasts, the sea was coming back in when I took that shot and the current was very strong, but I wanted to take a photo of that dead coral reef that was standing out from the beach, although non of the shot I took of it in color where interesting, I liked how the oursins peppered the undersea view… I also wanted to give the shot a bit of texture by focusing on its surface ripples…
